10/29/2020 World Vegan Day marked with flags and other attractions

This year, Animal Friends Croatia will mark World Vegan Day in an original way. In addition to the green-blue-white flags, which have been flying in popular places in the center of Zagreb for several days, two other Zagreb attractions will shine on Friday, October 30 in the colors of the vegan flag - Mestrovic's pavilion and fountains in front of the National University Library. In addition, an information stand with free vegan cookbooks and an educational board with information on the benefits of a vegan diet will be set up on Zagreb's Ban Jelacic Square on Saturday, October 31, 2020, from 10 am to 2 pm. They also invite all those interested to join them from the comfort of their home at an online culinary workshop that will be led live by the famous choreographer and director Igor Barberić via their Facebook page on October 31, 2020, at 5 pm.

10/21/2020 Sobin, Parmac and Gruica called for the castration of dogs

After Ivana Kindl, Dora Lipovčan and Luka Budak, as caring cat adopters, supported the Animal Friends Croatia campaign on responsible adoption and the importance of castration, they were joined by Slavko Sobin, Neda Parmać Klačar and Ana Gruica Uglešić, whose hearts were forever won by their adopted and neutered dogs. Well-known dog adopters are aware of the fact that in seven years only one female dog and her offspring can give birth to 67,000 puppies! Popular actor Slavko Sobin with his adopted, microchipped, and neutered dogs Buba and Mara called for responsibility and pointed out how much he would like everyone to take care of their animals as he takes care of his pets. He added that he is horrified when he sees that some people would rather leave puppies in the forest, where they will suffer and die than to castrate their animals and allow them a healthy and long life. Singer Neda Parmać Klačar and actress Ana Gruica Uglešić who have previously supported AFC campaigns agree with him.

10/19/2020 Stop the veggie burger ban

The European Union is currently considering banning established and widely understood terms such as ‘burger’, ‘sausage’, and ‘steak’ for plant-based products. Additionally, the proposed EU ban would prohibit dairy-related terms, such as ‘yoghurt style’, ‘cheese alternative’, and ‘butter substitute’. The main argument behind this proposal is to avoid consumer confusion. However, terms such as ‘veggie burger’ and ‘veggie sausage’ provide important information regarding the taste and uses that people can expect from a product. Consumers buy plant-based products precisely because they know these products offer similar taste experiences and functionalities to their animal-based counterparts. The proposed restrictions would be in direct contradiction to the EU’s stated objectives in the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy of creating more sustainable and healthier food systems. The Farm to Fork Strategy explicitly states the need to empower consumers “to choose sustainable food” and to make “it easier to choose healthy and sustainable diets”. Add your name and tell the European Parliament not to accept the proposed veggie burger ban.

10/16/2020 Today is World Food Day: The only sustainable diet is vegan

The global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is a blow to everyone, and the panic that has prevailed over the possibility of food shortages and basic necessities is certainly a good reason to think about how often some things are taken for granted just because they are readily available. Animal Friends Croatia calls for consideration on this year's World Food Day on October 16 to consider an extremely important aspect of the food system - sustainability, which the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has included as one of the areas to be emphasized. Animal Friends points out that the current diet, based on growing crops for fattening animals, certainly does not take into account sustainability, but leads to catastrophic food shortages and an increase in the number of hungry and poor people in the world. Raising animals for food is a tremendous waste of the world’s land and water resources. "The only sustainable diet and nutrition of the future is one based on plant-based foods," said AFC, urging: "Switching to a meatless diet means changing the world by changing yourself, and World Food Day is a great opportunity to take the first steps towards a sustainable diet. ”
