Animal Friends marks the Annual Global Boycott Procter & Gamble (P&G) Day and after the actions "Ariel Washes Boodily"and "Bloody Make-up of Max Factor' calls all citizens not to buy products tested on animals

Despite many alternative methods already used for testing of 8,000 cosmetics ingredients that are already proved safe and freely enter the market, Procter & Gamble (P&G) continues with the horrible tests on animals for the sake of profit. P&G, with more than 250 brands, is responsible for tormenting and death of thousands of animals per year on which it tests cosmetics, cleansers and pets' food.

To point a finger at the unethical pratice of this multinational company, on Saturday, May 21, 2005, on the P&G Global Day, at their informative stand with banners, video projection, leafletting and handing out the black and white list, Animal Friends will invite citizens to boycott all P&G products, as well as the products of other companies that experiment on animals.

Also, at 12 noon the representatives of The Association for the Protection of Consumers in Croatia will inform the public about their experiences with the cases of falsely advertising products, about quality issues, composition and efficieny of detergents that are being sold on our market, under completely different regulations and rules than those on the EU member countries' market.

The Annual Global Boycott Procter & Gamble (P&G) Day was marked last year with more than 140 events worldwide, and the reason for this is that P&G refuses to stop testing its products on animals, despite the fact that these tests are not required by any law, and despite the fact that more reliable and humane alternatives which already use hundreds of ethical companies do exist.

In experiments rabbits get poured various chemicals in their eyes and on their shaved backs. Animal experimentation victims - rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets and other animals - are placed in restraining devices so they cannot struggle while the workers apply the chemicals, which burn into the animals' eyes and skin. Animals sometimes break their necks or backs attempting to escape the pain. The most common reactions are swellings, blindness, red coloring, infections, poisoning of internal organs, convulsions, vomitting, paralysis and various types of bleeding - from the nose, eyes and mouth, painful death in agony. P&G "scientists" do not sedate the animals or give them pain killers.

Procter & Gamble spends millions of dollars to package itself as a responsible, caring company, and claims to be a leader in the development of alternatives to the use of animals in product testing. Despite its repeated P.R. claims about being in the forefront of developing alteratives and reducing product testing on animals, P&G's priorities seem clear: in less than 5 days, P&G spends more on advertising than it claims to have spent in 14 years on alternatives to painful and lethal animal tests. In 1996 alone, P&G spent $5.1 billion on advertising. This stands in stark contrast to the $64 million that P&G claims to have spent on developing alternatives over a 14-year period! If they truly shared the goal of eliminating animal cruelty, P&G would not have lobbied to defeat a bill before the California legislature that would have banned the infamous Draize eye-irritancy test.

Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium have already banned testing cosmetics on animals, and Denmark and Sweden have banned selling cosmetics that contain ingredients tested on animals. The European Parliament has adopted a law that will enter into force in 2009, which forbids most of the cosmetics tests on animals in the EU countries as well as selling cosmetics in the EU that have been tested on animals in other countries.

On the Annual Global Boycott P&G Day, Animal Friends will ask citizens to become conscious consumers and stop buying cosmetics tested on animals and to show Procter & Gamble and other unethical producers that by choosing the products that are not tested on animals and boycotting those who conduct horrible animal experiments they will no longer tolerate torture and slaughter of animals for profit.

We also invite the chain stores to watch out for their reputation and to stop cooperating with this notorious company.
