06/26/19 Slavko Sobin and His "Girls" in the Summer Campaign Against Abandonment
Famous actor, Buba and Mara joined the long-standing Animal Friends project
- Giant billboards all over Croatia call for a responsible custody through all seasons
While many are planning their vacations and going on summer holidays, Animal Friends Croatia, for the 17th year in a row, reminds everyone that love for cats and dogs is not without responsibility through their famous summer campaign "Family to the Seaside, Dog to the Street?!". On lovable billboard visuals throughout Croatian cities, popular actor Slavko Sobin with his adopted, microchipped and castrated dogs, Buba and Mara (Lady and Bug, transl.), spreads the message on the importance of lifelong custody of our four-legged friends and family members.
Although very busy, favorite and multi-talented Slavko Sobin, also known for his great love of dogs, found time to fully support the campaign and this year's message "Responsibility Through All Seasons". "I adopted two wonderful dogs I adore, and can not imagine life without them. Dog is a long-term responsibility, a friend to the end, not a Christmas gift that lasts until summer. Besides love, without which there is no coexistence with animals, this responsibility is shown by adopting, microchipping and castration", said Slavko.
For his companion animals Slavko has provided all the legally prescribed measures and more. Buba and Mara are chipped, castrated, walked regularly, vaccinated and protected from pesky fleas, and they in turn provide him with endless friendship. Their relationship is proof that love must always go along with responsibility, therefore effectively reducing the number of abandoned animals.
Unfortunately, many cats and dogs enter warm homes during Christmas holidays, and then end their life in the family prior to vacations, abandoned and neglected. Still uncastrated, they often bring the offspring that irresponsible and callous people reject the same as adult cats and dogs. This form of animal abuse occurs despite the fact that abandoning animals is punishable by a fine of 15000 to 30000 kn.
A large number of unwanted kittens and puppies ends tragically, so the castration is a necessary part of responsible custody. Apart from animal caregivers, the greatest responsibility lies with cities and municipalities who need to systematically control the microchipping of dogs, and may prescribe permanent sterilization as a way to control the breeding of cats and dogs, with noted exceptions.
Thousands of cats and dogs currently await their lifetime home, in which they will be loved and permanently taken care of. Therefore, Slavko and Animal Friends appeal against buying animals, and instead invite all those who have the conditions for long-term care of animals to adopt them, thus saving both the animal who is waiting for the adoption and the one waiting for that vacant place in the shelter.
Animal Friends would like to thank everyone who contributed to the realization of the "Responsibility Through All Seasons" visual: Viktor Drago, always ready to help animals, for creative leadership and production; Tomislav Valent for photography; photostudio Katran for shooting space, and everyone else supporting the campaign "Family to the Seaside, Dog to the Street?".
