That human beings regard some kinds of fish and Cetaceans as "pets" and others as objects of sport or consumption is one of society's many inconsistent attitudes toward animals. Millions of fish annually are subjected to severe pain and stress by the commercial fishing industry and in "sport" or "recreational" fishing.

Animal Friends is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, founded in 2001 with the aim to promote animal protection and animal rights as well as veganism, as ethical, ecological and healthy lifestyle. Animal Friends Croatia is a member organization of EVU, Eurogroup for Animals, ECEAE, IAFC and OIPA.
