Animal Friends Croatia mark the World Animal Day with a performance in the center of Zagreb

- October 2nd at 11 am, Jelačić Square, activists in chains and ribbons over their mouths call for the protection of all animals

On the World Farm Animal Day which is celebrated on October 2, and on the occasion of the World Animal Day, which is celebrated on October 4, Animal Friends Croatia will present a picturesque performance of torture, exploitation, and killing on Zagreb's Ban Jelačić Square. Tied to chains, with shocking photos, and with ribbons over their mouths, Animal Friends Croatia activists will portray the helplessness and plight of animals in the meat, milk, egg, fur, entertainment, cosmetics, tourism, sports, and pet industries on a daily basis. At the same time, they will use the slogan “Be their voice!” to invite everyone to actively involved in the protection of the weakest.

“If you really love animals, show it with everyday actions: replace animal products with those of plant origin and enjoy healthy and delicious vegan dishes; choose products that have not been tested on animals; do not visit zoos and aquariums; do not wear fur, leather, wool, and silk, but replace them with ecological materials; don't buy animals, but adopt a dog or cat from a shelter,” says Animal Friends Croatia, pointing out that even small changes in life habits can help animals.
World Farm Animal Day began to be celebrated by the Farm Animal Rights Movement on the birthday of vegetarian Mahatma Gandhi. Today, the day is celebrated around the world to draw attention to the suffering of more than 70 billion cows, pigs, chickens, and other conscious beings who perish on farms and slaughterhouses each year just so people can enjoy meals that harm both them and the environment. "By exploiting animals, we are directly harming the planet by destroying biodiversity and natural animal habitats, polluting the air, water, and soil, and using vast amounts of natural resources that can be used to prevent world hunger," warn Animal Friends Croatia.

Ivana Lunka, Ambassador of the World Animal Day, added that each of us can be a protector of animals, not only dogs and cats who live with us but also those many invisible to the public - on farms and in slaughterhouses, laboratories, and cages. She called on local communities to mark this day by implementing the Animal Protection Act - by controlling the microchipping of all dogs, subsidizing permanent neutering, building shelters, and promoting adoption instead of buying and protecting animals in order to solve the causes of problems and end citizens' irresponsibility towards animals they should be taking care of.

World Animal Day began to be celebrated in 1931, and this date was chosen in memory of St. Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and animal protector, who was a vegetarian. Since then, it has been celebrated all over the world every October 4th with a call for the necessary protection of all animals.

Philosopher Martin Buber said that "the eyes of animals have the power of speech", and all suffering and the call for help are visible in the eyes of those who cannot fight for their own right to life and freedom. Animal Friends Croatia says that every day we should be equally active for all animals because there is really no difference between cows and dogs or pigs and cats… Everyone needs our voice: “Be protectors of animals, love and respect them, do not do to them what you would not want someone to do to you. Look at the world through their eyes to better understand them ”.

At www.veganopolis.net anyone can sign up for the popular Veggie Challenge and find out how they can easily save a large number of animals.
