On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, Animal Friends Croatia points to a saving solution

- After the documentary "Cowspiracy" and the shocking "Seaspiracy" encourages viewers to change

After the documentary “Cowspiracy” which shows that industrial animal husbandry is the main source of environmental destruction, and the new documentary “Seaspiracy” about the harsh reality of commercial fishing leaves no one indifferent! On the occasion of Planet Earth Day on April 22, Animal Friends Croatia invites everyone to watch both documentaries, sign up for the Veggie Challenge at www.veganopolis.net and by changing their diet directly affect stopping the systematic destruction of the planet with a knife and fork.

"Climate change, global warming, the daily extinction of thousands of animal and plant species, the greenhouse effect, acid rain, devastating hurricanes, floods, the emergence of new and more dangerous diseases, as well as the Covid-19 coronavirus, are linked to our habit of eating meat and other animal products. It is important to realize that meat, eggs and milk have a bad effect on the overall health of the planet. "Even all the world's traffic is not as devastating to the environment as animal husbandry," point out Animal Friends Croatia.

The documentary "Seaspiracy" provokes tumultuous reactions because it reveals that commercial fishing and fishing nets are responsible for much of the plastic waste in the oceans, killing more than 300,000 accidentally caught whales and dolphins a year and therefore completely emptying the oceans by 2048. The film’s authors are telling viewers that the best thing we can do to prevent this is to stop eating fish.

Animal Friends Croatia agrees and states that overfishing, increased sea acidity and rising sea temperatures have a devastating effect on marine biodiversity. They emphasize that we can significantly influence all this with a plant-based diet: “Every day, a person who eats vegan saves 4164 liters of water, 20.5 kilograms of grain, 30 square meters of forested land, 9 kilograms of CO2 equivalent and saves the life of one animal. It is promising that our carbon footprint can be reduced by as much as 73 percent by removing fish and other meats, dairy products and eggs from the diet.”

They state all this to indicate that we need Earth Day every day, and not just on a certain date: "Usually on this occasion, the public only talks about the importance of waste separation, cleaning the environment and not using plastic packaging and bags. This is very important, but we remind you that a very effective and easy way to protect the Earth is to switch to a vegan diet, because raising animals for food is terribly depleting the Earth's resources, destroying habitats and leading to the extinction of many species."

As an example, they state that the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by beef production is 20 times higher than emissions of the same gases caused by bean production. On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, they state that we can help the Earth by using reusable items, sorting waste, saving water, and to a large and necessary extent by changing eating habits.

Animal Friends Croatia conclude that we should use the great power we have as consumers and make the decision to turn to natural plant food production and consumption of fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, seeds, nuts, as well as finished products such as vegetable milk, cheese, pate, hot dogs, sausage, which will not cause suffering and death of animals, human diseases, will not pollute drinking water, forests and the environment and will ultimately ensure survival on the planet for us, our children and animals.

On the occasion of Earth Day, Animal Friends Croatia will be available to citizens this week with free recipes and the distribution of free vegan cookbooks and tips on how to choose a diet to help the environment and which useful books and movies one can watch to learn more about this important topic.
