Animal Friends invites you to participate in the competition
International coalition against fur, Fur Free Alliance, with Animal Friends as its member since last year, organizes for six years already international competition called Design Against Fur for design students in which, starting this year, Croatian students will be able to take part. Since Croatia has a ban on breeding animals for fur as well as on import of seal fur, it is important to involve Croatian students in this competition where they will get a chance to create ethical message from the real life, speaking openly against fur.
The subject of the competition Design Against Fur 2008 is simply "Wearing fur is cruel and unnecessary," which helps to emphasise that over 50 millions of animals are killed each year due to the fur coats and fur trim. Fur trim is not "leftovers" of fur coats. More animals are killed in order to make fur trim on collars, hats, scarfs, bags and shoes, than for fur coats. Each second one animal dies for the sake of fashion and glamour.
Students will be evaluated by the experts in design and advertising, and the competition itself will be held in two phases; Regional competition and International competition. The winners of the regional competition in Europe can win valuable prices up to 1,000, 500 or 250 euros in cash. Best three finalsts will automathically take part in internet award "People's Choice Award" and International competition for the "Grand Prize Winner" that is 2,500 $ cash.
For the first time Fur Free Alliance organizes International competition in Flash animation. The best and most sucessful young designers who make creative, efective animated film sending an important and compassionate message that wearing fur is cruel and unnecessary can win prices up to 1,000, 500 and 250 $.
Faculty of Design and Graphics in Zagreb, Varazdin, Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik have recived all the details of competition, including films on animal farms and ways of breednig and killing animals for fur, that will give student an insight in what is going on, which will inspire them to do their work. Appliance date is April 11, 2008.
