Animal Friends invites you to sign an international petition and wish to remind of the Year of the Dolphin

Animal Friends invites the citizens of Dubrovnik to sign the international petition Animals Matter to Me, which supports the promulgation of a universal declaration on animal welfare by the United Nations in order to achieve a global recognition of animals as sensitive beings and promote the idea that it is our responsibility to stop all cruelty against animals throughout the world.

This petition is currently signed all around the world and over 800,000 signatures have been collected until now. Animal Friends has contributed with 26,000 signatures, but until the end of this year animal welfare organizations expect to achieve the goal of over a million signatures globally, which means that each and every signature is precious.

Animal Friends invites all citizens who feel that animals do matter to them to visit our info stall, which will be set in front of the Sponza palace on Friday, October 26 from 11:00 A.M.

In order to express our gratitude to all those who will contribute to animal welfare with their signatures, Animal Friends will organize a vegan tasting at the info stall, in cooperation with the first vegetarian restaurant in Dubrovnik.

At the info stall, Animal Friends will also distribute free postcards Croatia – the Dolphin Friendly Country in the framework of the campaign for achieving the prohibition of keeping dolphins in captivity in Croatia. The campaign has been supported by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and its Nature Protection Directorate, which has announced the promulgation of such legal act.

Considering the fact that this very year has been declared the Year of the Dolphin by the United Nations and that the international convention of ACCOBAMS (Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans in the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic area) is taking place in Dubrovnik from October 21-25, Animal Friends has set billboards that show dolphins in their natural environment of the Adriatic Sea and thus indicate the importance of the dolphin reserve at Mali Losinj and the upcoming legal prohibition of captivating these sea mammals.

In this way, the city of Dubrovnik will send out the message to the world that Croatia seeks to become a dolphin-friendly country and its citizens will have the opportunity to participate with their signatures in the global campaign Animals Matter to Me.
