With the arrival of the first day of spring Meatout is celebrated around the world

- Citizens are invited to send photos and recipes of their vegetable dishes which will mark Meatout!

The first day of spring is the best day for a decision on switching to a diet which combines vitality, protecting people and the environment and the clean conscience. Therefore, the start of the season in which nature is reborn is the ideal time to celebrate the plant-based diet.

On March 20, caring people in all 50 U.S. states and nearly thirty other countries encourage their friends, families, and communities to "kick the meat habit" and explore a wholesome, compassionate diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Animal Friends, in collaboration with the American non-profit organization, Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM), will also join this action by inviting Croatian citizens to show on this day the culinary skills and hospitality, and treat themselves and their friends with delicious plant-based food.

This year's Meatout will be celebrated throughout the world with tastings where over 30,000 vegan meals will be shared. Animal Friends volunteers will join by organizing tasting on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 12 noon on Trg Petra Preradovica, where citizens will be able to taste the plant versions of meat dishes such as cobanac, breaded steaks, skewers and bolognese.

To everyone who e-mail recipes and photos of their vegan dishes to Animal Friends with which they will celebrate the arrival of spring, Animal Friends will donate some of the prizes, such as books, T-shirts, canvas bags, badges, pendants and more. Some of the prize books will be The World Peace Diet: Eating For Spiritual Health And Social Harmony by Will Tuttle, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism, by Dr. Melanie Joy and the cookbook Mljac.

Those who will join the celebration of Meatout will quickly realize that each of their decisions made in this direction is changing their lives for the better and giving more vitality, health, and satisfaction, since it directly affects the environmental preservation and the rescue of many animals.

A plant-based diet is increasingly recognized as healthy and environmentally friendly. The number of citizens who decide for a plant-based diet is constantly increasing in order to protect themselves against common diseases and causes of death in Western countries such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and cancer. Studies have shown that vegetarians, and even more vegans, have a 20% lower mortality from all diseases, live longer and are less likely to develop diseases.

Today the devastating impact of livestock on the environment is increasingly pointed out throughout the world, with particular emphasis on high impact of farming on global warming, massive consumption of natural resources and direct links to world hunger. In addition, the fact that every second needless slaughter of innocent creatures occurs in the world, is simply horrifying.

Meatout is celebrated since 1985 on the first day of spring and symbolizes rebirth and renewal of nature, in order to assist consumers in developing a healthy and ethically and environmentally friendly plant-based diet.

Even a little attempt in a plant-based nutrition due to the great benefits can quickly turn into a constant and a new lifestyle of each individual, symbolizing the awakening of the new man in the growing community of compassionate people.
