Animal Friends invites you to Animal Friends Days

Animals Friends Days 2007 will last for ten days (October 1-10, 2007) with the following program:

It is the third year in a row that Animal Friends Croatia celebrates the World Vegetarian Day with a concert. The theme of this year's concert is "With Vegetarianism Against Global Warming" and performers are Hakuna Matata, Davorin i Bogovici, Dead by Mistake, SoM, Plan B, October Light, and Things Fall Apart. The concert will take place at the Boogaloo club at Vukovarska ulica 68, Zagreb on Monday, October 1, 2007, beginning at 7:00 P.M. The program moderator is Marija Strajh. This year, visitors will again have the chance to get acquainted with vegetarian diet, since a tasty vegan sandwich will be given to each person that buys a ticket.

This will be the first concert in Croatia regarding global warming and the effort to decrease it, which is a small step toward demonstration of a simple but mayor impact to solving of the great problem – switching to vegetarian diet.

On Tuesday, October 2, 2007, World Farm Animals Day there will be a vegan tasting at our info stall at 12 noon in order to encourage people to stop eating meat on the very World Farm Animals Days and to demonstrate their compassion to animals. Everyone interested can get info materials about the life of farm animals and watch the video projection of the movie about the life of pigs "(No) Heart for Lucy" held in our new offices in Gajeva 47. The video projection will take place at 6:30 P.M.

During Animal Friends Days there will be a promotion of the book Those Equal Creatures – 100 Questions and 100 Answers About Animal Rights written by a group of authors and published by Dvostruka duga in cooperation with Animal Friends. The book is about the unstoppable worldwide movement fighting for rights of nonhuman animals.

Book promotion will be held in Rijeka on World Farm Animals Days, Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at 6:30 P.M. in Transadria Hall, Riva Boduli 1, and also in Zagreb on World Animal Protection Day on Thursday, October 4, 2007, at 06:30 P.M. in Pucko otvoreno uciliste, Ulica grada Vukovara 68.

In the period from October 4-10, 2007, the petition Animals Matter to Me will be signed and it will in focus during Animal Friends Days. Petition was started by the world's biggest animal welfare organization World Society for the Protection of Animals – WSPA. The goal of the petition is to achieve global recognition of the fact that animals also have emotions and that it is our responsibility to end cruelty to animals all over the world, meaning that the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights by United Nations has to be declared. So far over 650,000 signatures were collected worldwide, of which Animal Friends gathered 23,000 signatures. It is planned to gather one million signatures by the end of this year and therefore on every day of the week our activists will gather more signatures for this important petition. Info stalls will be set on the corner of Varsavska Street and Petar Preradovic Square with the exception of October 4, 2007, World Animal Protection Day when the stall will be set on Ban Jelacic Square and on October 7, 2007, when it will be set by Bundek Lake along with info stalls of other organizations.

Animal Friends calls the public to join us during Animal Friends Days, to get informed about animal rights and vegetarianism and to sign the Animals Matter to Me petition.
