02/23/08 Anti-fur Demo in Slovenia
Animal Friends invites you to join in the international anti-fur demo in Slovenia
Fifty-two activists and supporters of Animal Friends, together with activists from Slovenia, Austria and Germany, will participate in the international anti-fur demo in Slovenia. The demo will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at 11 A.M. in Ljubljana.
The emphasis of this anti-fur protest in Slovenia will be against the Canadian seal slaughter. In other words, protesters from Slovenia and neighboring countries will appeal to the Slovenian government – as Slovenia being the EU Council President - to take a firm position within the European Union for the ban on any kind of trade of seal fur and other products derived from seals.
During the world campaign for the ban on trade in seal products in Europe which was launched by Animal Friends Croatia, Scandinavian Anti-Sealing Coalition, Campaigns Against The Cruelty To Animals, Canada and Atlantic Canadian Anti-Sealing Coalition, Animal Friends contacted more than 1,500 presidents of states, prime ministers, members of governments and parliaments, political parties and parliamentary groups, MEPs and MPs of the European Union member states.
National bans on trade on seal fur and other seal products in Europe were so far enforced by so far Slovenia, Croatia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Latvia.
The coach for the organized trip to the Ljubljana demo will leave from Zagreb on Saturday, February 23, at 7:30 A.M. in front of the Concert Hall Vatroslav Lisinski.
Animal Friends on an anti-fur protest in memory of Dr. Janez Drnovsek
PROTEST IN MEMORY OF JANEZ DRNOVSEK
On February 23, 150 protesters gathered in Ljubljana in a protest march against the killing of animals for fur. The protest march was dedicated to Dr. Janez Drnovsek, who was a vegan, an animal rights advocate and a great man in general. At the peak of the protest, fifty members of Animal Friends and other activists carried black ribbons and observed a minute of silence for the former Slovenian president, the man who would very gladly, if only he could have, joined this protest and also raised his voice for animals and their rights.
